Our Mission
WAWA/WeAreWideAwake is my Public Service to America as a muckracker who has journeyed seven times to Israel Palestine since June 2005. WAWA is dedicated to confronting media and governments that shield the whole truth.

We who Are Wide Awake are compelled by the "fierce urgency of Now" [Rev MLK, Jr.] to raise awareness and promote the human dialogue about many of the crucial issues of our day: the state of our Union and in protection of democracy, what life is like under military occupation in Palestine, the Christian EXODUS from the Holy Land, and spirituality-from a Theologically Liberated Christian Anarchist POV.

"We're on a mission from God."
The Blues Brothers

"Observe good faith and justice towards all nations; cultivate peace and harmony with all...and passionate attachments for others, should be excluded; and that, in place of them, just and amicable feelings towards all should be cultivated. The nation which indulges towards another a habitual hatred or a habitual fondness is in some degree a slave...a passionate attachment of one nation for another produces a variety of evils."

Declaration of Independence

We hold these truths to be self-evident: That all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights; that, among these, are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness; that, to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed; and, whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it. -July 4, 1776. WAWA Blog August 9: New Video + Photos by-and a Postcard from Vanunu with a report of a Failure to Report by the New York Times Photos by Vanunu:

On August 7, 2008, Vanunu wrote:

Here is my Hiroshima video Message.

VMJC stands for Vanunu Mordechai/John Crossman/jc; the name he assumed at his baptism in 1985, in
Sydney, Australia barely three weeks before being lured to Rome, clubbed, drugged, bound, gagged, and flung onto an Israeli cargo ship by the Mossad.

Vanunu was convicted of treason in a closed door trial but what he did was expose
Israel's clandestine underground WMD facility in the Negev. Vanunu was never paid for his photography, but it has reaped him 18 years in jail and over 4 more in the open air prison of occupied east Jerusalem, for he is forbidden to speak to any foreigners or to leave the state.

Corporate media has been MIA, but Vanunu informed this citizen journalist, "This administration tells me I am not allowed to speak to foreigners, the Media, and the world. But I do because that is how I prove my true humanity to the world. Many journalists come here to the American Colony, from CNN and NY Times. They all want to cover my story, but their EDITORS say no."

On July 25, 2008, I emailed:

Dear New York Times Editors,

Your most recent coverage on Vanunu is over three years old. [
March 18, 2005 was the last published report]

The CURRENT NEWS on Vanunu is that the conclusion of his Freedom of Speech Trial is scheduled for September 2008.

His most recent trial began in January 2006, the same day Hamas was democratically elected.
In July 2007, Israel convicted Vanunu on 14 [out of over a hundred interviews with foreign journalists] counts of violating the court order prohibiting him from speaking to any foreigners since his 2004 release from 18 years in prison for exposing Israel's secret underground nuclear weapons facility, which has never been inspected by the IAEA.

From email conversations with Vanunu between July 9 -14, 2008, he wrote:

I have the right to leave, the right to be free. It is time for this case to be ended and time to allow me my rights. These are three new judges reviewing the previous decision by one judge, who decided I am guilty and should serve 6 months in jail for the interviews I gave foreign media in 2004. These three judges have the power to drive my case and open the way for me to leave
Israel. These three judges asked many questions of the prosecution who spoke for an hour. The judges wanted to know why the government insists on putting me back in prison, although I have not caused any security damages from meeting with thousands of foreigners.

Since my release from prison on
April 21, 2004, Israel has denied me the right to speak with any foreigners and I have openly defied this unjust order by speaking with thousands of human beings because human beings have rights and States have obligations.

My photographic evidence taken in 1985, before I departed the Dimona for the last time has not caused
Israel a breach of security, nor has any of my speaking to human beings.

All I am asking is to leave the state for my life is in danger in
Israel and I am unable to find employment in occupied East Jerusalem.

All I am asking for is the right to leave
Israel and have a life that is not under occupation.

All I am asking is for the New York Times to report Vanunu's current news and be a true friend to Israel by encouraging them to let him go, for the longer he remains captive in Jerusalem, the greater his legend grows as does bad PR for Israel.

Eileen Fleming, Reporter, Editor, Author "Keep Hope Alive" and "Memoirs of a Nice Irish American 'Girl's' Life in Occupied Territory" Producer "30 Minutes With Vanunu" and "13 Minutes with Vanunu"

I did receive automatic replies from all the New York Times Editors within seconds of sending my email, but I still have NOT received a reply from even one human being at the New York Times regarding their failure to report the current news on Vanunu.

Vanunu had no comment regarding the Times, but he emailed me some photos he had taken of the El-Funoun Palestinian Dance Troupe which counters the Israeli occupation's attempts to suppress the Palestinian National identity through dance.

Vanunu wrote: See in the photos they are dancing with large keys; this is the new way to bring the Palestinian message to the world; by culture, not bombs!

Many Diaspora Palestinians still hold the keys to their homes that they were forced to flee in 1948.
Israel's statehood was contingent upon upholding the UN UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS:

Article 13:
(1) Everyone has the right to freedom of movement and residence within the borders of each state.

(2) Everyone has the right to leave any country, including his own, and to return to his country.

Just prior to writing, "It's a God Thing about Trees, Doors, Day and Vanunu"

Vanunu snail mailed me a poster available at The American Colony of Doorways of Jerusalem, a DVD with photos of East Jerusalem doors he had photographed and a postcard that read:

"I am not a photographer."

After I laughed out loud, I realized that Vanunu is the most heroic of any and also the most unappreciated photographer of all time.

Vanunu has also moved beyond waiting for corporate media to report on his ongoing saga by speaking directly to the world without editors or censorship on the World Wide Web:

Vanunu's 2008 Message on Hiroshima Day to the World and for Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament:

"Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers."-Article 19, UN UDHR

The Paradoxical Commandments
by Dr. Kent M. Keith

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.

People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
Help people anyway.

Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.

© 1968, 2001 Kent M. Keith

" In the final analysis, it is between you and God.  It was never between you and them anyway."-Mother Teresa

“You cannot talk like sane men around a peace table while the atomic bomb itself is ticking beneath it. Do not treat the atomic bomb as a weapon of offense; do not treat it as an instrument of the police. Treat the bomb for what it is: the visible insanity of a civilization that has obey the laws of life.”- Lewis Mumford, 1946

The age of warrior kings and of warrior presidents has passed. The nuclear age calls for a different kind of leadership....a leadership of intellect, judgment, tolerance and rationality, a leadership committed to human values, to world peace, and to the improvement of the human condition. The attributes upon which we must draw are the human attributes of compassion and common sense, of intellect and creative imagination, and of empathy and understanding between cultures."  - William Fulbright

“Any nation that year after year continues to raise the Defense budget while cutting social programs to the neediest is a nation approaching spiritual death.” - Rev. MLK
Establishment of Israel
"On the day of the termination of the British mandate and on the strength of the United Nations General Assembly declare The State of Israel will be based on freedom, justice and peace as envisaged by the prophets of Israel: it will ensure complete equality of social and political rights to all its inhabitants irrespective of religion it will guarantee freedom of religion [and] conscience and will be faithful to the Charter of the United Nations." - May 14, 1948. The Declaration of the Establishment of Israel
