Our Mission
WAWA/WeAreWideAwake is my Public Service to America as a muckracker who has journeyed seven times to Israel Palestine since June 2005. WAWA is dedicated to confronting media and governments that shield the whole truth.

We who Are Wide Awake are compelled by the "fierce urgency of Now" [Rev MLK, Jr.] to raise awareness and promote the human dialogue about many of the crucial issues of our day: the state of our Union and in protection of democracy, what life is like under military occupation in Palestine, the Christian EXODUS from the Holy Land, and spirituality-from a Theologically Liberated Christian Anarchist POV.

Declaration of Independence

We hold these truths to be self-evident: That all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights; that, among these, are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness; that, to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed; and, whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it. -July 4, 1776. WAWA Blog June 4, 2008: A CHRISTian and Jewish Uprising with 'reinforcement' from the EP and an offer from the Institute for Research: Middle Eastern Policy,

A Statement from Concerned Christian and Jewish Leaders About the Extremist Views of Pastor John Hagee From The Institute for the Study of Christian Zionism

Psalm 122 – Pray for the peace of Jerusalem

As Jewish and Christian leaders of worshiping communities in the United States, we write to address the ongoing controversy surrounding Pastor John Hagee. We are concerned by the content of his statements, his organization, Christians United for Israel (CUFI), and the theological ideology of Christian Zionism underlying both.

We have concluded that John Hagee is a poor representative of how faith can inform discernment regarding public life and discourse surrounding the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. It is regrettable that any public figure would choose to be associated with Pastor Hagee or his organization, CUFI. We were surprised to learn that three elected officials are scheduled to speak at CUFI's upcoming "Washington-Israel Summit": Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN), Rep. Elliot Engel (D-NY), and Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-CT). We call on each of these elected officials to disassociate themselves from the extremist views of Pastor Hagee and withdraw from this event.

We feel they should do so for the following reasons:

    * Pastor Hagee has claimed that supporting the State of Israel is "God's foreign policy." But his work to support the State of Israel does little than ensure that Israel's conflict with the Palestinians and its other Arab neighbors will continue into perpetuity given his adamant opposition to a negotiated peace.

    * He prays for the peace of Jerusalem, but not its shalom, as he looks forward instead to the false peace established through a treaty offered by the Antichrist, whom, we now know,Pastor Hagee believes must himself be a Jew.

    * Just as his ideology blames Jewish unbelief in Jesus for their centuries of suffering at the hands of Christians and provides a simplistic justification for the Holocaust (also based on Jewish intransigence), Pastor Hagee has again found a way to blame Jews for their own demise . . . this time at the hands of their self-supplied Antichrist.

    * In this political season, Pastor Hagee's radical views were first exposed by his description of the Roman Catholic Church as a "false cult system" that is the "Great Whore" of Revelation 17 and 18. Ignored in most media coverage of this controversy was the fact that these attacks on Catholicism were central to Pastor Hagee's ideological Christian Zionism.

    * Pastor Hagee's support for the State of Israel is at the expense of many others, including the Roman Catholic Church. Now, it has become clearer than ever before that Pastor Hagee's support for the State of Israel comes even at the expense of Jews.

As CUFI sought to expand its congressional influence, Rep. Betty McCollum (DFL-MN) wrote that Hagee’s public comments “demonstrate extremism, bigotry and intolerance that is repugnant.” We agree.

Improvement on the ground is crucial
Jerusalem, 2 June 2008

A European Parliament delegation visited Israel and the Palestinian Territories from 31 May to 2 June with the aim of assessing the situation on the ground as regards developments since Annapolis.

"We have observed encouraging improvements in the security situation in the West Bank municipalities with Palestinians being able to take on their responsibilities.  Nevertheless, Israeli incursions and other restrictions undermine the authority and ability of Palestinian police and security forces to function.

We further witnessed the beginnings of Palestinian economic recovery with greater commerce, trade and tourism in some West Bank areas.  However in order for these economic and security improvements to be consolidated, the movement of people and access of goods needs to be ensured.  Palestinian compliance in this field is not enough; a change in Israel's policies is required.  The existing policy of roadblocks and the impact of the route of the "separation barrier" seriously hamper on-going efforts, strongly backed by the European Union, to achieve economic recovery.

We have observed considerable and continuous expansion of settlements which is illegal, and incompatible with the objectives laid out in Annapolis and with the Road Map, making a two-state solution impossible.  In particular, we are worried over the future of East Jerusalem, the "E1" settlement project and the situation in the old city of Hebron.

In the Gaza Strip the revolting consequences of the ongoing sanctions and blockade policy were all too evident.  Dramatic overall shortages - in particular, medical supplies, food and fuel - result in unacceptable human misery, which, in turn, will generate future violence.  We were positively struck by the mobilisation of the civil society, as well as the activities of UNRWA, who try to counterbalance the effect of the siege.  Their efforts need immediate increased support from the international community.

On behalf of the European Parliament, we reiterate our pressing call to put an end to the geographical and political isolation of the Gaza Strip and to reconnect it to the rest of the world.  We call on the Quartet, and its representative Mr Blair, and on the Palestinian Authority institutions to re-engage on the ground and to collaborate with the Gazans. The only identified project of a sewage plant in the context of the Quartet's quick impact projects must be urgently implemented. We condemn the launching of rockets on the neighbouring State of Israel and consider it as totally counterproductive with respect to the willingness for peace that is the desire of a great majority of Gazans.

All the above points were raised during discussions between the delegation and members of the Knesset. Finally, we strongly feel that without serious signs of good faith translated into tangible improvements on the ground, the time is not yet right to upgrade EU-Israel relations."

The delegation comprised fourteen MEPs and co-chaired by Mrs Veronique DE KEYSER and Mrs Annemie NEYTS-UYTTEBROECK. Luisa Morgantini, Vice President of the European Parliament, also participated to the MEPs delegation.

AIPAC Report Reveals Long History of Activities Harmful to US - IRmep

Contact: Grant F. Smith of Institute for Research: Middle Eastern Policy, +1-202-342-7325

WASHINGTON, June 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Members of the press, bloggers and law enforcement officials may request a free copy of our special 200 page report during the annual AIPAC Policy Conference being held this week in Washington, DC.

"Foreign Agents: The American Israel Public Affairs Committee from the 1963 Fulbright Hearings to the 2005 Espionage Scandal" is an expose of AIPAC's encounters with US law enforcement. "Foreign Agents" asks tough questions about AIPAC and the Foreign Agents Registration Act, US election laws and the 1917 Espionage Act.

It begins with Senator J.W. Fulbright's 1963 hearings on foreign agents active in the United States. Fulbright discovered $5 million had been laundered into US lobbying and propaganda activities from Israel-based foreign principals. Isaiah L. "Si" Kenen, AIPAC's founder, received tens of thousands of dollars to write and distribute his lobbying newsletter "The Near East Report."

The "Near East Report" (NER) is still published today at AIPAC headquarters. During Kenen's time it excoriated members of the US Congress who rejected Israeli policy mandates. The NER lavished praise on members of mainstream media and "experts" who provided public relations spin on controversial Israeli initiatives. One that NER covered up was Israel's Dimona nuclear power program which clandestinely produced 150 nuclear weapons in spite of the Non-Proliferation Treaty. "Foreign Agents" reproduces the subpoenaed foreign payment vouchers and internal public relations strategy documents in a groundbreaking analysis. Israeli lobby money prevailed in spite of the Foreign Agents Registration Act, nonproliferation efforts and a Department of Justice investigation.

In the late 1980s US-Israel trade was roughly in balance. In 1984 the US and Israel signed America's first "free trade agreement". Between 1989-2006 bilateral trade went from parity to an almost a $50 billion cumulative US deficit with Israel. In 1984 the FBI discovered that AIPAC possessed secret information US companies had supplied to the International Trade Commission, but no criminal charges were pursued.

However two years later a former AIPAC director helped rig the California Senate race by laundering campaign contributions in collusion with a network of cutout campaign donors. The former AIPAC director, Michael Goland, even served a few months of prison time, but the results of the dirty election went unchallenged. AIPAC's own reputation and power in the US Congress subsequently ballooned.

AIPAC then allegedly coordinated Political Action Committee (PAC) contributions in violation of its nonprofit status in order to promote vetted candidates for Congress and to pick off foes. The Washington Post published the internal AIPAC coordination memos in 1988. "Foreign Agents" analyzes the years of subsequent court actions against AIPAC by concerned US citizens. The case reached the US Supreme Court before fading into oblivion. Did AIPAC transcend US laws?

Finally, "Foreign Agents" provides in-depth analysis of the 2005 criminal indictments lodged against two AIPAC executives for alleged violations of the 1917 Espionage Act. Can this long delayed criminal trial proceed, or will it require a pardon in keeping with standard US law enforcement leniency and special presidential treatment of AIPAC? "Foreign Agents" provides one shocking answer.

Reporters and bloggers can get a hardcopy of "Foreign Agents" by sending email to Federal, State and local law enforcement officials may also receive a free copy while supplies last if requested through a government email domain.

Members of the public may purchase "Foreign Agents" for $14.95 at, Barnes & Noble, and many other fine bookstores. The report's ISBN number is 0-9764437-7-5.

The Paradoxical Commandments
by Dr. Kent M. Keith

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.

People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
Help people anyway.

Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.

" In the final analysis, it is between you and God.  It was never between you and them anyway."-Mother Teresa

“You cannot talk like sane men around a peace table while the atomic bomb itself is ticking beneath it. Do not treat the atomic bomb as a weapon of offense; do not treat it as an instrument of the police. Treat the bomb for what it is: the visible insanity of a civilization that has obey the laws of life.”- Lewis Mumford, 1946

The age of warrior kings and of warrior presidents has passed. The nuclear age calls for a different kind of leadership....a leadership of intellect, judgment, tolerance and rationality, a leadership committed to human values, to world peace, and to the improvement of the human condition. The attributes upon which we must draw are the human attributes of compassion and common sense, of intellect and creative imagination, and of empathy and understanding between cultures."  - William Fulbright

“Any nation that year after year continues to raise the Defense budget while cutting social programs to the neediest is a nation approaching spiritual death.” - Rev. MLK
Establishment of Israel
"On the day of the termination of the British mandate and on the strength of the United Nations General Assembly declare The State of Israel will be based on freedom, justice and peace as envisaged by the prophets of Israel: it will ensure complete equality of social and political rights to all its inhabitants irrespective of religion it will guarantee freedom of religion [and] conscience and will be faithful to the Charter of the United Nations." - May 14, 1948.
