Our Mission
WAWA/WeAreWideAwake is my Public Service to America as a muckracker who has journeyed seven times to Israel Palestine since June 2005. WAWA is dedicated to confronting media and governments that shield the whole truth.

We who Are Wide Awake are compelled by the "fierce urgency of Now" [Rev MLK, Jr.] to raise awareness and promote the human dialogue about many of the crucial issues of our day: the state of our Union and in protection of democracy, what life is like under military occupation in Palestine, the Christian EXODUS from the Holy Land, and spirituality-from a Theologically Liberated Christian Anarchist POV.

Eileen Fleming's Biography

"We're on a mission from God."
The Blues Brothers

"Observe good faith and justice towards all nations; cultivate peace and harmony with all...and passionate attachments for others, should be excluded; and that, in place of them, just and amicable feelings towards all should be cultivated. The nation which indulges towards another a habitual hatred or a habitual fondness is in some degree a slave...a passionate attachment of one nation for another produces a variety of evils."
George Washington's Farewell Address - 1796

"My aim is to agitate & disturb people. I'm not selling bread, I'm selling yeast."

"Imagine All the People Sharing All the World."
John Lennon

"If enough Christians followed the gospel, they could bring any state to its knees."
Father Philip Francis Berrigan

"You can stand me up at the gates of hell, but I won't back down."
Tom Petty

"If I can't dance, it's not my revolution."
Emma Goldman

"We have yet to begin to IMAGINE the power and potential of the Internet."
Charlie Rose, 2005

Only in Solidarity do "We have it in our power to begin the world again"
Tom Paine

"Never doubt that a few, thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world: Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
Margaret Mead

"You shall know the truth and the truth will set you free."
John 8:32

Declaration of Independence

We hold these truths to be self-evident: That all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights; that, among these, are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness; that, to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed; and, whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it. -July 4, 1776. November 21, 2009: Yes Virginia: Bob Dylan is a Santa Claus, Rachel Corrie a Light unto the Nations and The Wall Must Fall

In 1887,
eight year old Virginia O'Hanlon wrote a letter to the editor asking for the truth about Santa Clause.

Newsman, Francis P. Church responded in a newspaper editorial how most people only believe what they see but their eyes are blind as "All minds, whether they be men's or children's, are little [and] yes, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist…how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus…There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence…Thank God Santa lives, and he lives forever." [1]

In October 2009, 68 year old Bob released
Christmas In The Heart, with US royalties in perpetuity to go to Feeding America, because as he said:

"It’s a tragedy that more than 35 million people in this country alone -- 12 million of those children – often go to bed hungry and wake up each morning unsure of where their next meal is coming from. I join the good people of Feeding America in the hope that our efforts can bring some food security to people in need during this holiday season…That the problem of hunger is ultimately solvable means we must each do what we can to help feed those who are suffering."

Feeding America provides low-income individuals and families with the nutritional fuel to survive and as this nation's leading domestic hunger-relief charity, they supply food to more than 25 million Americans annually.

Staggering increases in statistics confirm there is a US Hunger Crisis.

A 2009 report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Economic Research Service confirmed that 49 million Americans, including nearly 17 million children, are 'food insecure' which is an increase of 36% since 2008!

Last week, the U.S. Department of Agriculture/
USDA released a report stating that in 2008, one in six households in the U.S. were 'food insecure' which is the highest number since figures were first gathered in 1995.

The reason is due to poverty in the land of plenty and the so called home of the free and the brave.

However, the USDA did not connect the dots regarding how US taxpayers have funded since 2001 our Governments Wars which total over $934,000,000,000!

Nor do they address that the FY2010 budget request for $130 billion more for war will require another trillion USA tax dollars that will be misspent in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Add that to the over $114 Billion US tax dollars that have been sent to the so called Holy Land since 1949 which have been used to continue the illegal Military Occupation of the indigenous Palestinian people.

Where 2009 US Taxes Went:

FY2009 federal piechart

Total Outlays Federal Funds: $2,650 billion
MILITARY: 54% and $1,449 billion
NON-MILITARY: 46% and $1,210 billion

"Any Nation that year after year continues to raise the Defense budget while cutting social programs to the neediest is a nation approaching spiritual death."
-Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.

On October 23, 2009, President Obama signed a presidential memo eliminating a tariff on Israel that protected American dairy farmers and which raised money for the American economy.

Israel is one of the richest nations on earth and also a nation that has consistently flouted US laws and policies in violation of US trade agreements as well as blocking the import of many American products.

For decades Israeli policies have prevented Palestinian exports causing Palestinian farmers to lose their livelihoods, reaping unemployment and malnutrition at what the Red Cross has called 'devastating' levels in Gaza.

Two days before the US bombed Baghdad, on March 16, 2003, 23 year old American Rachel Corrie was run over and killed in Gaza by a USA made Caterpillar bulldozer manned by Israeli Forces who ran over her twice as she stood up to defend the home of a pharmacist and five children from demolition.

Israel claimed there was a tunnel under the home but neglected to reflect that the tunnel system in Gaza is a means to feed the 1.5 million open air prisoners trapped there and that over 70% of them are children under 16 years of age.

In 1990, at the age of ten, Rachel Corrie stated at a Press Conference on World Hunger:

I’m here for other children.
I’m here because I care.
I’m here because children everywhere are suffering and because forty thousand people die each day from hunger.
I’m here because those people are mostly children.
We have got to understand that the poor are all around us and we are ignoring them.
We have got to understand that these deaths are preventable.
We have got to understand that people in third world countries think and care and smile and cry just like us.
We have got to understand that they dream our dreams and we dream theirs.
We have got to understand that they are us. We are them...
My dream is to give the poor a chance…My dream can and will come true if we all look into the future and see the light that shines there. If we ignore hunger, that light will go out. If we all help and work together, it will grow and burn free with the potential of tomorrow.

In 1997, President Bill Clinton said:

"His voice and lyrics haven't always been easy on the ear, but throughout his career Bob Dylan has never aimed to please. He's disturbed the peace and discomforted the powerful. President Kennedy could easily have been talking about Bob Dylan when he said that, 'if sometimes great artists have been most critical of our society, it is because their concern for justice makes them aware that our nation falls short of its highest potential.'" [3]

In 2004, during an interview with Ed Bradley for 60 Minutes, Bob Dylan said, "God's the judge [and] the only person you have to think about lying twice to is either yourself or to God." [4]

Bob also explained his nearly 50 years of touring and preforming was part of a bargain he made a long time ago with the "chief commander—in this earth and in the world we can't see." [Ibid]

Bob also spoke to Ed about destiny as "a feeling you have that you know something about yourself…the picture you have in your mind of what you're about will come true…it's a fragile feeling."

Destiny is also inescapable.

finesses and ends Christmas In The Heart with a soul filled rendition of O' Little Town of Bethlehem.

I conclude inspired by Bob and illuminated by the light of Rachel Corrie's spirit:

O Little Town of Bethlehem

Imprisoned you now lie,

Above thy deep and silent grief;

Unmanned drones do fly.

And while thy ancient streets standeth,

An illegal Wall defies:

The hopes and dreams that peace can be

And the Holy Land FREE,

But morning stars do shine

Upon this crime

And people sing to God the King-

But where is justice and what is truth?

Yet, Christ was born of Mary,

And God’s LOVE reigns supreme,

As mortals sleep and children hungrily weep;

In pain not seen by US!

How silently, how silently,

The world spins;

As checkpoints grow and resign the Land

To settlers who steal property

And Too few ears hear the cry,

As the Illegal Wall is built

Apartheid rules,

And collective punishment reigns.

O Holy Child of Bethlehem,

Give strength to us, we pray,

Cast out all fears and open all eyes,

And give us voice today:

To rise up/Intifada against injustice,

To End All Military Occupations

That Peace and Justice will rule

And the hungry be filled

And Christ’s peace will enter in.

Jesus also promised that it is the Peacemakers who are the daughters and sons of God and what ever we do-or do NOT do-unto the least and oppressed:

We do it-or NOT-unto God.

"HOPE has two children. The first is ANGER at the way things are. The second is COURAGE to DO SOMETHING about it."-St. Augustine

"He who is not angry when there is just cause for anger is immoral. Why? Because anger looks to the good of justice. And if you can live amid injustice without anger, you are immoral as well as unjust." - Aquinas

The Paradoxical Commandments
by Dr. Kent M. Keith

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.

People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
Help people anyway.

Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.

" In the final analysis, it is between you and God.  It was never between you and them anyway."-Mother Teresa

“You cannot talk like sane men around a peace table while the atomic bomb itself is ticking beneath it. Do not treat the atomic bomb as a weapon of offense; do not treat it as an instrument of the police. Treat the bomb for what it is: the visible insanity of a civilization that has obey the laws of life.”- Lewis Mumford, 1946

The age of warrior kings and of warrior presidents has passed. The nuclear age calls for a different kind of leadership....a leadership of intellect, judgment, tolerance and rationality, a leadership committed to human values, to world peace, and to the improvement of the human condition. The attributes upon which we must draw are the human attributes of compassion and common sense, of intellect and creative imagination, and of empathy and understanding between cultures."  - William Fulbright

“Any nation that year after year continues to raise the Defense budget while cutting social programs to the neediest is a nation approaching spiritual death.” - Rev. MLK
Establishment of Israel
"On the day of the termination of the British mandate and on the strength of the United Nations General Assembly declare The State of Israel will be based on freedom, justice and peace as envisaged by the prophets of Israel: it will ensure complete equality of social and political rights to all its inhabitants irrespective of religion it will guarantee freedom of religion [and] conscience and will be faithful to the Charter of the United Nations." - May 14, 1948. The Declaration of the Establishment of Israel
